Stop living in pain

Avoiding and suppressing feelings can make you disconnect from loved ones, and leave you feeling exhausted. If you’re arguing more, trusting less, or finding yourself avoiding others, we can help you move past these barriers.

Anxiety

Being consumed with worry can be distracting and depleting.

Self-esteem, self-worth, or identity issues

Questioning your self-worth and fearing failure can become a toxic force in your life.

Anger-management

Constant arguments can damage important relationships, while avoiding them can leave you feeling like a doormat.

Sexuality

Shame and discomfort with sexuality can lead to anxiety or a disconnect with your partner.

Relationship issues

Few things hurt as much as feeling distant from the ones you love.

Trauma

The effects of a traumatic experience can be felt long after the event has passed.

Regain control of your life

At Downtown Somatic Therapy we focus on the power of emotion, healing, and transformation in relationships to help you grow and thrive.

  • Whether you have experienced violence, a sudden loss, or any painful or pivotal event, we are here to help you heal from it.

  • Unhealthy habits like drinking, procrastinating or self-isolating are coping mechanisms for difficult emotions. Instead of suppressing them, we can help you work through your feelings and help you break a cycle of self-neglect.

  • Human beings are wired for connection, yet somehow the people we are closest with also seem to cause us the most pain. We offer individual and couples therapy to help you work through past hurts and transform your relationships into a source of strength.

  • Pushing people away by avoiding social situations and getting into frequent arguments with others will leave you feeling isolated. Accessing care can help you reconnect to others, and the world around you.

  • Figuring out what you need from yourself and the people in your life, and learning to ask for it, will lead you to achieving your goals and having better relationships.

We don’t change the way you think, we change the way you feel

At Downtown Somatic Therapy, we recognize the body’s innate ability to heal. Tracking sensations in your body allows you to access your feelings more deeply, ultimately allowing you to set aside your old stories for a new experience.

FAQs

  • Cost per session depends on your therapist's rates and your insurance reimbursement. Our sessions cost between $200-$350 before insurance reimbursement.

  • This is a great question! Our goal is for therapy to be as brief as possible while also making sure that you have gotten everything you came for. Every person is different and everyone moves along their own path at their own pace. The most important thing is that you feel like therapy is helping and that you can leave a session feeling that you got something positive or healing out of our work together.

  • Many research studies show that the biggest factor in a successful therapy experience is the relationship between the therapist and the patient. So, making sure you’re comfortable with your therapist is really important. Two things come to mind in trying to sort out the rightness of fit:

When you talk to this person, do they make you feel comfortable? Do you feel seen and listened to? Are they talking to you or past you?

Does their style and approach match what you want? Some people really want, more than anything, to be listened to and be supported. Others really want to be challenged or given concrete tasks to work on. Think about what you want and ask your therapist how their style compares to your goals.

  • Many people come to us having been in therapy before. Sometimes they’ve done Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Dialectical Behaviour therapy and have better coping skills, but are still struggling with their emotions. Other times they’ve gone to more traditional talk therapy and gained insight into their “issues” but eventually ran out of things to talk about or felt like they were talking in circles.

Often, we hear some version of “My therapist was kind and supportive, but it just didn’t feel like I was making any progress.” While many therapies are good at telling you what’s wrong with you, we also attend to what needs to feel right. Our transformational work with emotions and relationships allows you to move beyond insight and coping, and into feeling like the person you were always meant to be.
