EMDR Therapy in NYC
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. It is an evidence-based treatment that uses bilateral stimulation, delivered through eye movement, sound, or tapping, to help clients resolve symptoms rapidly. Downtown Somatic Therapy uses EMDR with many diagnoses, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and phobias. Our background in attachment-oriented therapies also lets us apply EMDR to childhood and developmental trauma, abuse, and neglect.
Downtown Somatic Therapy is a New York City practice whose clinicians are trauma informed and trained in cutting edge trauma modalities, and who continue to consult with experts in the field. Our EMDR work is grounded in attachment theory, which is what allows us to apply its principles to harder to treat issues such as CPTSD, chronic feelings of worthlessness, and challenges with intimacy. We move at a customized pace that begins with regulating your nervous system. Many of our clients use EMDR in conjunction with other forms of treatment, such as AEDP and Somatic Experiencing, so that they are addressing all parts of themselves in therapy.
